Madrid-based Strong by Form successfully concludes its seed funding round, raising $5.2 million to advance its Woodflow technology—a breakthrough in ultralight, high-performance timber-based biocomposites poised to replace conventional structural materials like steel, aluminum, and concrete.

Madrid, Spain – Date

Strong by Form, a pioneering Spanish bio-composite technology company, has successfully secured $5.2 million in its latest seed funding round. The company specializes in Woodflow technology, producing sustainable ultralight high-performance timber-based biocomposites. This innovative approach offers a promising eco-friendly alternative to traditional structural materials such as concrete and steel.

Woodflow Technology Redefines Structural Efficiency

Woodflow technology, developed by Strong by Form, focuses on creating wood-based composites for lightweight, high-performance applications. This breakthrough allows for a sustainable substitute for materials like steel and concrete. By exercising precise control over form and material architecture, the company can produce stress-tailored structural components that fully harness wood’s performance capabilities.

Key Achievements of Woodflow Technology:

  • A 34.8 kg lightweight slab prototype withstands 630 kg (exceeding Eurocode 5 requirements for residential structures) with a deflection of only 6.2 mm.
  • Material efficiency: Achieves concrete-like strength at 1/10th of its weight, saving 75 percent of the trees compared to cross-laminated timber.

Industry Impact and Investor Support

Woodflow technology holds significant potential to transform industries, particularly construction and automotive. Currently engaged in a project with Deutsche Bahn, Strong by Form explores various markets through its collaboration with the BMW Group.

Investor Support:

  • The funding round, oversubscribed by over 25 percent, was led by CMPC Ventures, the corporate venture capital arm of CMPC, a major global pulp and paper producer.
  • Other contributors include CiRi Ventures, MAIF Avenir Ventures, Teampact Ventures, Climate Insiders, Core Angels, Savia Ventures, Family Offices, and corporate venture capitals Symbia VC, FINSA, and VX Ventures.

Founder’s Vision and Next Steps

Andrés Mintik, Founder of Strong by Form, expressed his pride in blending nature and technology, stating that Woodflow technology can play a pivotal role in addressing the climate crisis. The company plans to utilize the investment to double in size, establish an industrial manufacturing facility, and expand its R&D and product development capabilities.

Bernardita Araya, CMPC Ventures Manager, added: “CMPC is very excited to partner with Strong by Form and has an enthusiastic dedicated team to help accelerate to industrial scale, maximizing synergies for more sustainable construction solutions.”
