Ecuador-based Construex, a digital marketplace catering to the construction and design sectors, has successfully raised $4.6 million in a seed funding round. The investment was co-led by Zacua Ventures and Fifth Wall, with participation from ABSeed and Terracotta Ventures.
Founded in 2019 by brothers Roberto and Nicolás Arroyo, Construex aims to digitize the construction industry in Latin America, a market estimated to be worth over $520 billion. The company addresses a critical issue in the region—the lack of information and technology adoption among construction suppliers, with only 4% being tech-enabled.
Construex offers a platform connecting over 80,000 registered suppliers, providing more than 700,000 products, from architecture and engineering to furnishings. The company’s revenue model includes transactions on the platform and subscription-based services, offering a comprehensive CRM, virtual reality showrooms, and integration through WhatsApp.
After bootstrapping for nearly four years and achieving profitability in Chile, Guatemala, and Argentina, Construex plans to leverage the funding to accelerate expansion into Mexico, Brazil, and other Spanish-speaking countries. The recent opening of an office in Mexico City marks a strategic move towards this goal.
With a vision to onboard one million suppliers in the coming years, Roberto Arroyo anticipates quadrupling revenue in the next year. ABSeed’s investment, their first outside of Brazil, reflects confidence in Construex’s trajectory and the potential for transforming the construction technology landscape in Latin America.
